Fantastico. I will be in the neighborhood a lot, as my best buddy Molly will be camped across the street at Clan Blackhart (green & white w/ a black stag's head). I will be sure to stop by :) Feel free to scream at me if you notice me strolling by ;)

I just rechecked - I think his latest is 15th C side lace boots. But here's the link if you're interested. Maybe you could commission something and trade for food *grin*

yay indeed! its pencilled in.
will they do instruction to start out? some of those 15th c. dances are a bit complicated....

They don't teach at the Ball, but there will be dance classes (including a healthy ratio of fifteenth-century) all day every day in the dance tent :-) Also, there's usually a good mix of easy and more challenging dances (and some of the big favorites, like Petit Vriens or Rostibolli, might get danced more than once).

I'm in the dance band, so if you'd like a chance to review, I could provide a list of dances :-)

can people drop in to play music with the dance band? I can play soprano or tenor, sight read pretty well and know how to stop when lost until I find my place again, as well as how to hit the first note of the beat when the pattern is too fast?

I used to play dance music all the time locally but havent for several years so I'm super uber rusty....

Not for this one (we do a lot of it on shawms, and some of it on strings), but there will be other dances with pick-up bands (in the dance tent, but also check in the barn late at night).

[I] know how to stop when lost until I find my place again...

Excellent! If only more players had that skill (lots of 'em stop when lost, but never manage the "finding their place again" part :-D)

If you are interested in a Mongolian bow, I have one you can try out from Seven Meadows. Felicitae also recommends getting a cheapie fiberglass bow for initial practice. Have one of those too!

Sean loaned us some nice black (duh :)) fiberglass bows to play with, but I want to start thinking about thinking about getting a "real" one. I figure Pennsic would be a good place to go fondle them so when I'm ready I can make educated choices....

really want to keep it to western styling, rather than eastern if at all possible, though...but thanks!!!

Dame Alys Katerine has set them up...they're in the class schedule. its basically interkingdom anthropology, populace asking questions, general "look we're not that scary!" type thing....

she asked me to come, and I'm delighted to try :)

check it out!
