Aug. 13th, 2006 08:21 pmclass went well, I think :)
highlights included teaching a bunch of folks (including <lj user="spedgirl"> and co :)) about pomegranite chicken, watching their little eyes light up with they see how easy it is to use fire, and the chicken that we found in my front yard.
yep. a chicken. a young hen apparentlyw andered away and ended up in my front yard. after 3 hrs, tall gothy apprentice boy earns the moniker of "the chicken whisperer". <lj user="smithwick"> names said chicken "pomegranite" (after the dish we just enjoyed.)
young pomegranite is a very social chicken. she spends the afternoon with us in my backyard, begging bits of food from everyone and hanging out. in fact, when we all left to go to dinner, she ran after us, crying loudly. it was kinda sad, really...
Pomegranite apparently has wanderlust, because when we got back from yummy greek food she was no where to be found. of course it was dark, and all sensible chickens would be asleep...morning we found her again in the front yard, happily digging around under my front shrubs.
this evening by the time I got home, though, she had wandered across the busy road for some reason (dont say it. just dont.) and one of my neighbors nabbed her. I loaned him a cat carrier and he will take young Pomegranite to live with a friend who has chickens. Pomegranite really needs friends. she just gets into trouble on her own.
all of this is really making me wonder if I want chickens of my own, though...I start thinking I do but then I remember that I'm never friggin home and they would tear up my yard. tho its good entertainment for the cats...you should have seen them watching Pomegranite through the window...
yep. big excitement in the big city.
