ornerie: (ghy)
what a nice weekend :). spring is here at last last last. I like winter. but there's something about the first days of spring when you get to sit in a sun patch and feel the ache leave your bones for a bit....

sat was a day of sartorial bliss (mmm. haircut.) and some shopping (woot! 3/4 length sleeves are back!) punctuated by bookreading on teh sofa in sun spots, being harassed by jealous cats.

sunday was our Day of Tilt horse event (http://guillaume.garrigues.net/DayOfTilt/) a day of horsie fun! Gordon and Bob (the site owners...http://home.earthlink.net/~nebbo/tilburycamp/) were lovely hosts and even let me ride Taxi, the movie star horse (last seen in such epic productions as "The POstman" ;))

I will point out to smack dealers that I rode very happily at the canter for the quintaine and pigsticking for the tournament, and placed respectfully in the middle of the pack. thank you very much. No jousting for me...I'm not authorized for that particular activity.

it was lovely to go to an SCA horse event and have no drama, no whining, no politics. top level management of the horse part of things made things more challenging but we met those challenges with no problems at all. nyah. we had 12 riders competing, and a number of folks brought green horses, which always makes things fun :). it was really fun to watch a friend who does non-SCA playing (http://www.warhorseguild.com/) go through the hoops to get authorized to do our "jousting". she was patient and didnt snigger at all :). she said she had to learn not to hit quite so hard....

me, I had a glorious day :). those stretches and exercises I've been doing 2-3x a day really paid off. my shoulder back and hip didnt squawk at all hardly. I was a bit stiff by the end of the day, especially after I got off the horse and started getting cold but none of the icepick locky hip thing that's been plaguing me. yay!!!

On [livejournal.com profile] smithwicks urging ("I'll enter if you enter....") I got talked into entering the tournament. it was a nobless oblige style...ie everyone submits a prize equal to what they consider their own worth. false modesty disguising stinginess would be met with major derision ;). the person who got the highest score would be the winner and would et the honor of being The Winner. the person who got the lowest score would then get first pick of the prizes, then up the scorings. means that folks were actually free to enjoy the day, and not focus on the prize. woot!!!

prizes were amazing! Lowest score went to Bevin, our Warhorse Guild friend, who only competed in some of the trials. she quickly snapped up the prize of two strands of amber AND some custom made leather demigauntlets, tooled to spec. Second lowest went to the donor of the gauntlets :) and he picked my prize of me cooking dinner for him and a date at an event to be named later :). I am highly honored that my prize was picked so quickly :). (did I mention how cool this touarnament structure is??). Other prizes include a custom carousel, ie a professional trainer works with you and your horse to put together a carousel display. custom chamfron and crennets. custom demi-chamfrons. custom strap barding. two different saddles. copies of medieval horse treatises. etc etc etc. very cool :).

I ended up taking home a pair of brand new silver tone dressage stirrups :). and a lot of satisfaction. things clicked. in a good way ;). G did an outstanding job as autocrat (well, duh) and a good time was had by all.

I'm really looking forward to trying to capitalize on what worked at this event for the Emprise (http://www.9v.com/crystal/emprise/). full of ideas....full of ideas.....
