its been a while...

on the horsie front.
have taken a couple lessons on various ponies. it really sucks not having a horse of your own. you're kinda at the mercy of what you can get.

I've ridden Noel, who is a zippy little thing :). she also refuses to break into a a canter if you dont ask right. I learned something interesting....my right hip does not rotate in its socket. Kinda hard to do a canter depart (think a small scoopy hip check movement) like that. hm. that might explain a lot. We have a lot of vid of me trotting wildly around the arena, then attempting to ask NOel to canter, she then tosses her head and gets all pissy. Lather rinse repeat.

I've ridden Keena, the grand prix dressage horse who also refuses to canter depart if you dont ask nicely. on the correct lead (ie left) I actually managed to get some lovely canter departs from her. yay team!

I've ridden Moon/Lilly, the psycho arab/thoroughbred. on a good day, there's no one lovelier. on a bad day its all you can do to keep her from bucking the length of the arena. fortunately we've managed to come to an understanding. she hates going slow. if she's goign to be a cow, that's what we're going to do. nyah. Funny, on the ground, she's a peach...well, except for that rearing when you try and saddle her...ok, she's a pill.

I've ridden GiGi, the mustang. she has the same hip problem I do ;). so we spent a lot of time working on nice trotting exercises using only weight changes for direction. I managed to get her to do a canter depart, but not keep it.

I also have ridden Nef, the schooling arab at the barn. now THAT was fun. she's jiggedy (which is no problem for me, former owner of echo that I am ;)) so we spent some time saying "no, we're walking. no we're walking". pretty little trots for a bit and then lovely perfect canter departs. I will point out that I did all this without stirrups. ahem. smug? me? ;) I had some major epiphanies that day....)

at a sca horse practice, I spent three hours (!) on Monet the big attitude appie mare running the rings. no problem with canter departs there ;). it was more a problem of keeping her going straight and not veering to the other horses. PS here's a hint....if you leave your glasses on your rings scores improve rather dramatically. but three hours in a badly fitting western saddle did my back in for a good 4 days. oof.

and, get this, I may have a lead on a horse to share for the summer. Ace, a lippizanner boy with a heart of gold and the sweetest thing on the planet apparently 'suggested' to his mom that if we're both at the same event, I may be able to share him. woot!!!! still trying to find time to arrange for some test runs to make sure everyone likes everyone else...

my PT has given me some yoga stretches to try and get that right hip rotating again. I have GOT to get my back figured out. my ortho moved to Mukilteo (about 1 hr north) but I should call her for a referral. I hate not being able to do what I want to do :(

I miss having a horse of my own. I miss my old horse, the one I had when I was a teenager. Lady wasnt the fastest thing around and was ugly as sin but she was willing to try anything, was totally bombproof and was all heart. we were a good match.

oh well. plans are proceeding apace for a fun horse filled summer. SCA horse stuff is f*cked and quite frankly, they get what they deserve. its become obvious to me that the people in positions of authority are in their own world, and my efforts to tug on their sleeve have been met with derision and anger. I have to admit that the SCA horse stuff is way more work than its worth. and when the Pain in the Ass factor outweighs the Joy factor by that much, grownups need to think about why exactly they're spending their rare moments and energy with it?

oh well. we'll see what we see. in the mean time, I'm working on developing a classic seat and being a better equestrienne. none of that needs the sca, and quite frankly, the current SCA climate has made it very clear that not only do they not value what I value but they are actually threatened by it.

*snork* its not like there's not a million other things calling my attention in the SCA...

ok, that last bit was rather whiney. on am or upbeat note, I still ahve snow in my yard :)

My pirate name is:

Captain Anne Flint

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!
