anyone want apples? I got three trees worth and I need to get them taken care of.
we'll be doing applesauce and pie filling on Saturday but that is only about 12 lbs worth. Bring grocery sacks and take all you can carry!!!

once we've gone through the windfalls (they always taste best if you can find ones the raccoons and squirrels havent nibbled), we'll strip the trees.

I wish two of those apple trees were cherries, or plums or somethingl ike that, but oh well. apparently the former homesteaders liked apples :)

hmmm. maybe I should plant a plum tree this fall. those yellow prune plums. they make the best jam....

in other news, poor raji is still lame :(. no CMO ride this weekend and the Emprise a few weeks away is looking less likely (if he's sound enough to trailer I'll still bring him so I can hand walk him about for a couple days, which is better than nothing). the big endurance race is in October...am maintaining an open mind about that (and there's multiple things waiting in the wings for that weekend if I end up not going. funny how that works)

am slowing cleaning and packing up stuff from the summer, storing it for the winter. am thinking there may be a purge in my future...I mean, how many sets of feast girl does one girl need? and my new 16thc. kit means I should do a purge (or at least a box up) of some older stuff in that department as well.

feeling overwhelmed by clutter, which is my usual reaction to a seasons change :). fortunately I know what to do about that.... I just really seem to lack the motivation to start much less keep at it once I start. meh....

plus, its fair time!!! need to find the time to go and kiss goats and look at pies and quilts and ride a creaky old roller coaster.

I love fall :)

I'm sorry Raj is still lame. What exactly is wrong, is it his front legs, where he went down? And, really, it's best not to rush healing (but I'm sure you know that... :-) ).

As a side note, should I bring any "being around horses"-appropriate apparel? Are you going to need any groundcrew help? Or should I just go for the Noble Lady /Girlfreind of a Judge look? (Hey, one of my mottos is "They also serve that stand around and look good." ;-) )

And apples are supposed to make you healthy, right?

yes, by all means bring horse friendly clothes! I cant promise anything but there are often ponies who need attention at these things :) Grounds crew is always appreciated (and it would give you something to do) but then as you say, being the judges girlfriend is also an important job ;)

They will be judging pretty intently during the day on Saturday, but sunday is alot more loose and free form. I am really hoping Raji is sound for Sunday :)

re: his being lame, we think its his knee. the other soreness is mostly resolved but I'm thinking he twigged his knee either with impact or just twisted it. poor guy :(. its bad enough that he really doesnt want you picking up that hoof, and its really bad under trot (tho it doesnt stop him from trying). it does not get better with easy work.

yep, slow is best, I know. after this week, I'll decide if I invite the vet out to take xrays to determine if its hard tissue or soft tissue damage. there's a gal at the barn that I may be able to pay to work him a bit every day (horsie PT) if thats best....I dunno.

the timing is unfortunate...we have so many things planned for this fall. but I want him to be better, not push it for some silly events. maybe large amts of apples will help? :)

I will need both Green and Red apples for the challenge course for Emprise if you have enough left over by then.

Sorry to hear about Raji.

Those trees are scary. I picked at least 25 pounds of apples off them and they didn't even show it. I did 5 quarts of apple pie filling, 2 quarts of spiced apple juice, 5 pints of jelly and ended up with about 2 cups of dried apples. Yummmm.

Poor busted pony. Hope he's better soon, and that you are too, BTW.

I want to do the fair, too, and in almost exactly the same areas--I'm too weenie for the roller coaster but I love the preserves and the huge herking pumpkins and the fancy chickens.
