when I talk about "synthesis" in SCA research, this is what I'm talkin' about.

awesome :)

in other news, back from the Madrona Fiber Arts retreat. learned tons. brain full. even knit a bit ;)

my favorite bit were the excuse, nay the MANDATE to unapologetically knit for four days. we knit when we were sitting in class, we knit during lectures, we knit during meals, we knit in between classes. I even learned how to knit while walking.

I learned a new bindoff (way faster and even stretchier than my usual one), four kinds of short rows, three kinds of braid, how to do fringe, how to lever knit like a shetland peat gatherer as well as other ways to speed up my knitting, what length sweaters I should wear, and I got to take a class from one of my favorite knitting rockstars (I tried really hard not to be a TOTAL goober. she was kind and didnt make me sit in the hall.)

got to hang with [livejournal.com profile] secretsquire and [livejournal.com profile] hinkie and even a drive by with the indominable [livejournal.com profile] countess_e

we saw that there are indeed limited archetypes in the world, and the knitting universe is no different. tho they have this "hip designer grannie" category that I dont know is anywhere else (comfortable arty european shoes, lots of Eileen Fisher, funky trendy glasses, and fluffy short white hair). I totally want to be that when I get older.

we ate alot and drank a fair smidgeon, bought some yarn and stuff and planned next year :).

for me it was rather surreal to be a participant and not an organizer or even a helper bee. that said, I selfishly enjoyed the opportunity to just absorb and learn stuff for ME, something I dont get very much.

I took today off to go ride a pony or two, so I suppose I should get showered and go do that :)
